Follow along for an insight into the 4 hours that I recently spent in the salon.
A few days before my day at the salon, our old friend Running With Scissors sent us this photo
I liked the angled bob style and wanted my hair cut like that, so I brought the photo along with us to the salon.
When I arrived at the salon, I told the stylist Mimi that I needed my hair cut and colored. I showed her the photo and she asked if I wanted the highlights like in the photo. I thought they looked cool, and asked Enzo's opinion. He liked them too, so we decided to go with the chunky highlights.
Mimi started by coloring my hair. I really wanted to go with a lighter shade, but since my hair is so dark, she wasn't able to do so. I don't really mind the process of having dye applied, but I was dreading having to sit in the chair waiting for the dye to take.
After all of the dye was applied, Mimi pulled off a sheet of plastic wrap and wrapped it around my head. I'd had my head wrapped in plastic after dye jobs in the past, so it didn't really bother me.
Mimi then escorted me to a chair that had a round saucer behind it. She then turned on the chair, and the saucer began to rotate around my head, throwing off heat.
Afterwards, Mimi brought me to another room with what looked like a dentist's chair. I sat in the chair and she first raised me up, then lowered my head into the sink behind it. It was an enjoyable experience as she rinsed the dye out of my hair.
The next part of the process were the highlights. Mimi sectioned off portions of my hair and wrapped it with foil.It was at this point that I started second guessing my decision to do chunky layers.
After Mimi Foiled my hair, I was back under the dryer, this time, a more conventional hair dryer.
Coming out from the dryer, Mimi wasn't happy with the color, so she added a little toner to the hair.
Finally, it was time for the foils to come out. Mimi brought me back to the was room and gave my hair one final wash before the cut.
