Recently, my good friend Macguyver posted the question of when did your love for short hair begin, on his blog
I thought it was a great blog that gave some insight to to what started Mac's interest in hair, but I was more interested in hearing about what were some of Mrs. Mac's influences.
I decided to ask her directly and she told me that her husband usually points her in the direction of how she wears her hair. She went on to tell me that her bobs were influenced by Elisha Cuthbert, Jenny McCarthy and Ellen Barken. Her shorter styles, were based on Demi Moore when she was in Ghost. Now, her main influence is P!nk. Mrs Mac is a big fan of P!nk's style, which she says combines pure funk and fun and still makes it look classy. We think Mrs. Mac looks great with her P!nk inspired hair.
Recently, I've posted how my wife Anna was influenced by our local weather girl who has a steep angled bob.
I wondered what other influences she's had over the years and decided to let her blog in her own words who her influences were and how it affected her hair. - Enzo
*******************************************
When Enzo asked me what other influences I had and what were the hairstyles inspired me, the first name that came to mind was Dorothy Hamill.
I remember watching Dorothy Hamill in 1976, when she won a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. Every girl wanted to be like her, and every girl wanted her wedge hairstyle. I remember begging my mom got get my hair cut like Dorothy Hamill's, and the joy that I had when she finally agreed to it.
Enzo seems to think that this was the defining point in my life which lead to years of changing my hair, but for me, it was just the case of an impressionable young girl that wanted to emulate her idol.
My hair throughout the 80's was not influenced by any one person in particular, but more by the big hair trend. Everyone in the 80's had big hair. I can't narrow down what it was that made me start teasing my hair, but I was definitely influenced by the what I saw in the schools, on the streets and on TV.
In the 1990's I was a big fan of the television show "Melrose Place" The cast featured some interesting female characters, many of whom opted for shorter hairstyles as the show progressed.
Inspired by my favorite actresses who opted for shorter styles, I decided to go shorter too. On my 26th birthday, I treated myself to a trip to mexico and a new short haircut.
In 2006,Victoria Beckham of The Spice Girls brought a new life to bobbed hair. Her cut featured choppy layers with longer, razored ends in the front and shorter, stacked layers in the back and became known as The Pob.The Pob became very popular, but it wasn't until 2007 when actress Jenny McCarthy appeared with a bob that i really took notice. Enzo was smitten Jenny McCarthy and had a Jenny McCarthy collage as his wallpaper on his computer.
Maybe it was Enzo's subliminal messages, that inspired me, for in February 2008, we were home watching Deal or No Deal. A contestant on the show had a Pob and Enzo was glued to the television. There was something about this girl's hair that just looked right to me. I threw out the suggestion to Enzo that I was thinking about getting my hair cut like this girl, and he was very excited.
2 weeks later, I came across some photos that Enzo found of the girl on TV with the Pob and decided to get my hair cut. I was a little nervous when I got the Pob, for I was getting 10 inches of hair cut off, but figured if I didn't like the cut, I could always grow it again
It's been almost 5 years since my hair has reached my shoulders. I guess my biggest influence to date has been Enzo. His love of short hair is the reason I've never grown my hair long again.
Those were just some of my influences, but there are many more influential hairstyles that have come and gone. We'd love to hear about some of your hair influences. Maybe you had the Rachel?
Please leave your comments below about your hair influences.
