The Year in Hair - 2012

Those who followed my Hair History know that it ended at the beginning of this year, so I decided to continue it with the Year in Hair - 2012.

2012's hairstyles actually started on Christmas of 2011, I was going to let my hair grow for the winter, but decided to surprise Enzo on Christmas by getting another asymmetrical haircut with a short nape.

Looking at these photos, I'm surprised at how short my hair was, and how my earlobes were exposed. Last winter here in NJ was too cold for such short hair, so I let my hair grow through the season. By March, my ears were no longer exposed and my nape had grown in.

By April, I couldn't avoid to the salon any longer. My hair was overgrown and needed to be shaped. I opted to have my hair trimmed and thinned, leaving me with a slightly asymmetric style with a buzzed nape.

After my last haircut, I realized that I'd grown tired of the asymmetric style. My first asymmetric cut was done in July 11, so May,after 10 months of having an asymmetric cut, I decided to have my hair cut all one length.

My plan was to let my hair grow to chin length and be one length all the way around. I wanted to let my hair grow through the summer, but by the end of June, temperatures had topped 100 degrees where we live, and my hair was getting too bulky to deal with.

It was around this time that we were approached my one of our blog followers to do a haircut video. I was given a few options and decided to go with an angled bob with a buzzed nape. The photo that was shown to me as a guide had chunky highlights. I really liked the highlights and opted to get them when I had my hair cut in July.

I had planned a vacation to Italy for the month of August and wanted to only get my hair styled the day before I left for my trip, but Enzo convinced me to get my hair trimmed instead. At the salon, I decided to not only have Mimi trim my ends, but also cut the back a little shorter, so my hair would look good for the duration of my trip.

My hair held up fine through vacation. Once I returned home, I booked an appointment to get my hair cut. I wanted Mimi to trim my hair, but she cut too much off.  I left the salon very unhappy, for my sides were cut shorter and were no longer angled. Thankfully, this blog is a great support system, and after reading all of the positive comments, I felt better about my haircut.

Although my last cut was less than favorable, I couldn't deny the styling that Mimi did was excellent. I think it's because she has many Asian clients with thick hair and knows who to style a thick mane like mine. I continued to go to Mimi for weekly wash and blow drying.

At the end of October, hurricane Sandy drastically affected our area. I took notice of our local weather girl and really liked the steep angled bob that she had. I considered getting a similar angled bob but was unsure.
On November 17,I went back to the salon to get my hair done for another video. The plan was to get a cut like the one I had August. Midway through the cut, I decided to go for a steeper angle like our weather girl.

The end result was pretty close.

And that brings us up to Christmas of 2012. I had my hair done on 12.23, just in time for the holiday. Although I'd planned another angled bob with a buzzed nape, my stylist Mimi gave me more of a stacked bob with less of an angle.

Thank you all for your support through 2012. I'm not sure what's in store for 2013, but hope you are keep following and continue to comment.
