Knowing When to Keep Your Mouth Shut

At long last, Anna has finally returned home. The whole time she was gone, I was wondering what would she do to her hair while she was in Italy. I know that she likes to get her hair done when she goes to Italy, and before she left, she made mention that she was thinking of doing something different while she was there. I had visions of "Roman Holiday" dancing in my head, but knew it would be best to keep my mouth shut. After the first week that she was gone, I decide to ask if she was gonna have her hair done. She made mention that she was going to have her hair colored, for her roots were beginning to show.  I played it off like that was all she was going to have done, but figured she wanted to do more and surprise me when she got home. A few days later, I asked if she had her color done, and she replied No, the girl couldn't do it, and the conversation fell flat. At that point, I was sure she had something done, but just didn't know what it was, so I waited anxiously for her to arrive home. When she met me at the airport, I looked over her hair... Not a hair was altered, and her  color needed to get done. Alas, I once again worked myself up for something that didn't happen.

Far too many times I've worked myself up with high expectations of how Anna will emerge form the salon. And more times than I'd like to admit, I've carried on like a child when she didn't meet my expectations. My carrying on often lead to disputes, which almost ruined one Christmas. So now I've learned how to keep my mouth shut.

This past weekend, Anna made an appointment with Mimi to get her color done. I was sure that I could convince her to at least get her nape trimmed while she was there. I was so convinced that I made it a point to drop by the salon while she was there.

I hung around and waited for the color process. The coloring doesn't really excite me much, but I have to admit, there's something about seeing my wife's head wrapped in saran wrap under a circular dryer that make me smile.

After the coloring, I asked Anna if she was going to get some dead ends trimmed. She told me she didn't really have the time to and would have to re-schedule a cut for another time. Mimi proceeded to blow out her hair.

When it was all done, I have to admit, the overall cut still looks great, however, that nape needs to get trimmed.

So once again, I kept my big mouth shut. All is well, and I'll just have to be patient and wait for that next trip to the salon so we can clean up that nape. Until then, I'll just keep hoping for another great cut.
